What to Do for Your Posture After Sitting All Day

After a long day of sitting, start by walking and changing position. You do not need to punish your body with a hard workout to reset.

Walk before stretching

Take a few minutes to walk around the room or outside. Let your arms swing naturally and allow your hips to move. Walking gives your body a different task before you decide whether you need a stretch.

If you have been sitting for hours, beginning with movement is often more approachable than dropping into a demanding routine immediately.

Open the shoulders without forcing them

Try five slow chin tucks, then a few wall slides or wide-grip towel rotations. Use the range you can control. A smaller movement with a relaxed neck is a better starting point than pulling hard against tightness.

Give the hips and glutes some work

Use a half-kneeling hip flexor stretch on each side, followed by controlled glute bridges. Keep your ribs relaxed during bridges and lift only as high as you can without arching your back.

NHS posture guidance supports using gentle exercise and regular position changes rather than staying in one posture for long periods.

Make tomorrow easier

Set one movement reminder during the workday so the after-work routine is not carrying the whole load. Uncurled can guide a short session and track whether it happens across the week.
