Posture and Breathing: Use a Relaxed Breath as a Check

Breathing can show you when a posture has become tense. Take one easy breath, soften the shoulders, and keep moving.

Notice the shoulders during a normal breath

Sit or stand comfortably and take an ordinary breath. Notice whether your shoulders lift, your jaw tightens, or your ribs feel restricted. Let the shoulders soften without trying to force a larger breath.

This is a check, not a performance. You are looking for a clue that you have been bracing or holding one position.

Add movement after the check

Stand up, walk, or move your arms through a comfortable range. A breath can help you notice tension, but position changes give the body a new job. Do not stay still while trying to breathe perfectly.

Mayo Clinic recommends breaks and position changes during computer work, even when the workstation is arranged well.

Build a short practice

Use one easy breath before chin tucks, wall slides, or a hip stretch. Uncurled can guide the exercises and remind you to return to them later.

Stop if movement causes pain, dizziness, numbness, or unusual discomfort. Get qualified medical advice for ongoing symptoms.
