Wall Angels Exercise: How to Use a Smaller Range

Wall angels do not need to look perfect. Use the wall as feedback and keep the range small enough to stay smooth.

Set up against the wall

Stand with your back near a wall and place your feet a comfortable distance away. Bend your elbows and bring your arms into a goalpost shape. Keep your eyes forward and your neck relaxed.

You do not need to press every part of your back flat. Find a position that lets you breathe and move without bracing.

Slide only as far as you can control

Move your arms upward, then return them down. If your wrists or elbows leave the wall, shorten the range. If your ribs flare or shoulders shrug, stop before that point and try again with less height.

The exercise should feel like a slow path for your shoulders, not a contest against the wall.

Add it to a wider routine

Pair wall angels with chin tucks, a short walk, or glute bridges. NHS posture guidance supports regular movement, and Uncurled can guide the sequence with reminders to repeat it.

Stop if the movement feels wrong

Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, numbness, or unusual discomfort. Seek qualified advice for ongoing symptoms or an injury.
